Year 6 Autumn B Update

This term, Year 6 have fully embraced the magic of the stage and screen with our Lights, Camera, Action theme! From Shakespearean drama to Hollywood-worthy performances, our learning journey has been both creative and inspiring.

Macbeth: A Tale Retold

We delved into the dark and dramatic world of Macbeth through the lens of a graphic novel. This unique medium brought the story to life in a way that captured our imaginations and sparked plenty of classroom debates. Inspired by Shakespeare’s haunting soliloquies, we wrote and performed our own, channelling the emotions of ambition, guilt, and bravery.

But we didn’t stop there! Our innovation knew no bounds as we filmed and edited new endings to the classic tale. Some groups created comedy, others went for a sci-fi twist, and a few crafted heart-warming conclusions that even Lady Macbeth would applaud. The creativity was astonishing!

To top it all off, we celebrated our hard work with our very own Oscars ceremony, complete with awards for Best Actor, Best Cinematography, and Most Creative Script. The red carpet vibes were unforgettable! You can see the highlights from our Oscars here https://vimeo.com/1040506494/af7a08499d?share=copy

Behind the Scenes with Screen Alliance Wales

A highlight of our term was a visit from Screen Alliance Wales. They shared fascinating insights into careers in film eyes to the magic behind the camera. The children were intrigued to learn about everything from set design to special effects, with plenty of questions about how to break into the industry. Who knows? Perhaps the next Spielberg is among us!

Creative Crafts: Kevin Snipes Inspiration

In Expressive Arts, we explored the imaginative ceramic works of Kevin Snipes. Inspired by his storytelling through pottery, we worked with Mrs Daly to create our clay pots. Each one told a story. The results were as unique as the artists who made them!

Pupil Voice: Exploring Our Interests

This term wasn’t just about what happens on screen but about getting hands-on with activities inspired by film. In the cooking suite, we recreated iconic dishes from famous movies, including a Ratatouille-inspired ratatouille!

We also read bus timetables to plan a trip to the cinema, practising real-life skills in a fun and engaging way. We visited the Riverfront Theatre to watch The Wild Robot to round it all off. The movie sparked lively discussions about adaptation, storytelling, and how books come alive on stage.

Mad Science visited us to complete a workshop on light and electricity. We enjoyed the hands-on experience and using lots of resources.

A Star-Studded Success

Year 6’s Lights, Camera, Action project has been a whirlwind of creativity, collaboration, and discovery. We are so proud of everything we’ve achieved, from performing soliloquies to crafting clay pots and exploring the world of film.

Have a great Christmas Year 6. There’s lots more exciting learning in store for you in the Spring Term!
