Year 5 Summer B

What a whirlwind our final term has been! It has been filled with fun activities that have definitely kept all the students and their teachers very busy! From participating in lots of sporting activities during our Healthy Living Week, forming our very own rock band and singing our hearts out for Lion King, it has been a fantastic few weeks as our time in Year 5 comes to an end.

As part of our ‘School of Rock theme’, students collaborated with local artist Ragsy to create their very own class songs, drawing inspiration from various aspects of their school experiences. Under Ragsy’s guidance, the students engaged in brainstorming sessions, sharing memorable events, favourite subjects, and school traditions. Ragsy helped them transform these ideas into lyrics and melodies, teaching them about song structure, rhythm, and musical expression along the way. It was amazing to hear the creativity of each and every class!

As part of this creative theme, students have also formed their own rock band, dedicating significant effort to practising their instruments. Collaborating closely, they designed unique logos, created eye-catching album covers, and even planned an imaginative world tour. Their teamwork has been outstanding, showcasing core values of St Julian’s students along the way.

During Olympic Week, students in Year 5 delved into learning about China. They independently researched various aspects of Chinese life and traditions. An exciting highlight of the week was the opportunity to speak with school children in China, and students loved being able to ask questions to students’ their own age. It was great learning more about a day in the life at their school, as well as hobbies and favourite foods!

At the end of this week, students took part in Sports Day, showcasing their dedication and hard work. From javelin, relay races, skipping and sprints, students loved being outside and engaging in each activity. All the staff were so proud of how students cheered each other on and supported their friends as they raced! It was lovely to share this day with so many family and friends who came out to support their children, helping to make Sports Day a memorable and inspiring occasion for everyone involved.

Our students have also worked incredibly hard to support the Year 6 students in their performance of The Lion King. With weeks of rehearsals, students dedicated themselves to mastering the challenging harmonies and dynamic rhythms of the musical’s iconic songs. This unwavering support not only enhanced the overall production but also exemplified the power of teamwork and dedication in bringing a magical performance to life

Finally, our term wouldn’t be complete without the much-anticipated trip to the theatre to see Aladdin! I think it is safe to say that this was a highlight for staff and students, travelling to the Bristol Hippodrome to watch this magical performance. It was wonderful to see the excitement in each student’s faces as the dazzling performance, filled with vibrant costumes, captivating songs, and mesmerising special effects, transported them to the magical world of Agrabah.

As the school year draws to a close, we bid a heartfelt goodbye to another incredible term filled with creativity, hard work, and unforgettable experiences. We hope you have a wonderful summer holiday, and we are looking forward to welcoming you back for Year 6!
