Over the past few weeks, the children have embarked on an exciting journey back in time to explore the world of castles and medieval Wales. From learning about the mighty fortresses of Wales to experiencing the thrill of archery, it has been a truly unforgettable adventure!
Our journey began with an archery trip where the children had the chance to try their hand at this ancient skill. Under the guidance of expert instructors, they learned how to hold a bow, aim with precision, and release arrows just like the skilled archers of the past. It was incredible to see their enthusiasm and determination as they improved with every shot. Who knows? We may have discovered the next great archer among them!

The children also enjoyed a special Medieval Day at school. They arrived dressed as knights, princesses, jesters, and even monks! The day was filled with exciting activities, including medieval games, storytelling, and a grand feast fit for a king. We even had a mini-tournament where they put their archery skills to the test once more!

One of the highlights of our learning experience was our visit to the magnificent Caldicot Castle. As we walked through its grand halls and climbed its towering walls, we were transported back to the medieval era. The children were fascinated by the castle’s history, learning about its role in battles and its importance in defending Wales. They explored the dungeons, admired the stunning views from the battlements, and even took part in interactive activities that brought the past to life.

This journey through medieval times has been an amazing experience, bringing history to life in the most exciting way possible. The children have not only learned about castles but have also gained a deeper appreciation for the past through hands-on learning and adventure.
Over the past few weeks, our Year 3 children have been learning a brand-new skill—playing the penny whistle! Under the expert guidance of Mr. Stewart, they have been exploring the joy of music, developing their confidence, and mastering new tunes.
The children eagerly took on the challenge of learning the penny whistle, starting with basic notes and rhythms before progressing to full melodies. Mr. Stewart’s fun and engaging lessons helped the children build their musical abilities step by step, and it was wonderful to see their confidence grow with each session.
To celebrate their hard work and progress, the children put on a fantastic performance for the Foundation Phase pupils. With great excitement (and maybe a few nerves!), they played their tunes beautifully, filling the hall with music. The younger children were captivated by the performance, clapping along and showing their appreciation for the musical talents of their Year 3 peers.

This journey with the penny whistle has been a wonderful experience for our Year 3 children. They have not only learned a new instrument but have also developed teamwork, perseverance, and a love for music.
As you can see, it’s been a very busy, but amazing half-term. Have a fantastic Easter break everyone! We look forward to seeing you again in two weeks time for our last term in Year 3.
