We have had a very busy half-term and we have enjoyed every minute of it! We have transitioned from The Romans and moved onto the Rumbles part of our theme. We started the term by reading the story ‘Escape from Pompeii’ which led us to our first natural disaster – volcanoes. The children loved working in pairs to create a news report about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and they took their roles very seriously!
We made volcanoes using papier-mâché around an empty bottle and painted them. We then looked at the reaction of vinegar and baking soda and had so much fun erupting them. We then moved on to learning about different natural disasters and how they happen and form. We especially loved carrying out a tornado and earthquake experiment during our ‘Discover and Do’ afternoons.
We loved Crazy Hair Day for Children In Need too!
We wrote letters to Santa and after writing these letters, we walked across the road to our nearest post box to post our letters, whilst singing Christmas songs. The children loved having a real purpose for letter writing. Also in Literacy, the children have been writing a diary entry as if they were Edgar the Excitable Dragon, from one of the past John Lewis adverts. They have pulled together all the skills they have been taught previously, to produce some fantastic diary entries, full of creativity and imagination.
All of the Year 3 children have made us so proud this half term. They have settled into Year 3 brilliantly and have quickly adapted to the new routines in place. Their performance of ‘I’m Gonna Shine’ for our Christmas concert was out of this world and I am sure you felt just as proud as we did!
You were all such shining stars this term, we hope you have a wonderful Christmas and we look forward to your return in January!
Nadolig Llawen!
