We have had a wonderful time at Slimbridge Wetland Centre today for our theme ‘Soaring High and Diving Deep.’ Before visiting Slimbridge, each year 2 class checked the website daily to see what birds had been seen at the centre. We then researched the different birds that had been seen. So, when we arrived at Slimbridge it was lovely to see the birds that we had researched before visiting.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the staff at the centre who talked to us about the rules for walking around the reserve. They were very impressed by our knowledge of birds. We took part in a workshop looking at the different ways birds eat. The staff set out different stations where we pretending to be different birds catching and eating their food. It was great fun!
While at the centre we saw geese, swans, tufted ducks, flamingos, otters and loads more. We enjoyed bird watching from the hides and looking at the wonderful views of the whole centre from the top of the large viewing tower. We fed geese and swans by hand and played bird bingo. We learnt so much about loads of different birds and had an absolutely fantastic time. We can’t wait to return to Slimbridge in the future.
