This half term we introduced our theme ‘Land Before Time’. We have loved learning about dinosaurs! We have researched the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous periods and plotted them on a timeline. In groups we created the periods using natural items we found in our Forest School area.
Another exciting part of our topic was learning about fossils. We became palaeontologists and carried out our own fossil dig using chocolate chip cookies. We learnt how resilient a palaeontologist needs to be when digging out fossils. We had so much fun!
We found a life size T-Rex footprint in forest school, so we explored the size of the footprint by estimating how many of our shoes would fit inside. We then measured the footprint using a metre stick. We went outside and marked out the strides of different dinosaurs.
We loved having a visit from Ranger Chris from Dinomania who showed us some dinosaur bones and teeth. We met Ronnie the T-Rex and even watched a dinosaur egg hatch!
We had fun completing pictures of dinosaur skeletons using art straws.
We have spotted signs of spring and even planted our own sunflower seeds. We made sure they had enough water and sunlight. We are so excited to watch them grow and measure how tall they grow each week.
