Year 2 Spring A Update

Year 2 have had an amazing and action-packed Spring Term so far! We’ve been learning all about garden birds and have thoroughly enjoyed birdwatching around the school grounds. The children created tally charts to record the birds they spotted and then turned their findings into block graphs. We saw plenty of blackbirds, magpies, and seagulls! To attract even more beautiful birds, we made our own bird feeders using lard and bird seed, which we hung in the trees around our school. A highlight was watching the RSPB’s Live Big School Birdwatch special, where we learned the names of different local birds and how to care for them.

At the start of the term, we were lucky to have a special visit from Falconry UK! The children were captivated by the incredible birds of prey, including owls, a kookaburra, and a falcon. Everyone listened carefully as we learned fascinating facts about these birds, and we even got the chance to hold one of them. It was an unforgettable experience!

For the past two weeks, Year 2 have been immersed in our exciting Living Eggs experience. The children took great care of a batch of eggs, and we were thrilled when they started hatching so quickly! By the second day, eight fluffy chicks had already arrived, with the final two hatching overnight. Throughout the week, we watched in awe as more eggs cracked open, making sure to stay as quiet as possible so we wouldn’t startle the new arrivals. The children loved watching the chicks grow, ensuring they had enough food and water, and, of course, having a little cuddle with them! Our Year 2 digital leaders even recorded a podcast with Miss Amso to share their wonderful experiences.

It’s been such an exciting term learning about birds, and we can’t wait for our upcoming trip to Slimbridge after the break to continue our bird-themed adventures!

Have a fantastic half-term, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for even more exciting learning!
