Well what an exciting and busy Spring Term we have had so far in Year 2! We have really enjoyed learning about garden birds. We have been on a bird watch around the school grounds and made a tally chart and block graph of what we found! We saw lots of seagulls, magpies and even some blackbirds. We had to be really quiet so we didn’t frighten them away! We made bird feeders using lard and bird seed to hang on the trees in our school grounds so we can spot even more birds. A blue tit has already been spotted munching on them!
We were really lucky to have a visit from Falconry UK where we met Blu the Blue Winged Kookaburra, Brooklyn the Verreaux Milky Eagle Owl, Rocco the Pigmy Falcon and Bailey the White faced Owl. The children behaved brilliantly with the birds and listened carefully to lots of interesting facts. We even dissected Owl pellets to find out what Owls eat and what they bring back up!
We have also had a living eggs experience, where the children have had to care for some eggs. They started to crack on day 3 and we were lucky enough to watch them hatch! We have enjoyed watching them grow and making sure they have enough food and water! Our favourite bit was getting to cuddle them!
We had a super sunny trip to Slimbridge Wetlands Centre in Gloucestershire where we enjoyed seeing a variety of birds including flamingos, emperor geese, swans, ducks and moorhens. We were even lucky enough to see a kingfisher on the tree doing a spot of fishing!
Have a lovely half term and we look forward to next half term where we have lots of exciting things planned.
