Year 1 have loved carrying on with our ‘Julia Donaldson’ theme this half term! We had a busy first week back, where we had our Eisteddfod, World Book Day, Platinum Jubilee celebrations and Fair Trade Day!
We have loved reading the story ‘Paper dolls’ and learning how to fold and cut paper to make our own paper dolls. It has been lovely to share our favourite memories with each other.
We have loved our Zumba sessions with Zoe this half term and have even started doing some of the moves during play times. As well as Zumba, we have also had a go at tennis! We enjoyed trying to balance the tennis ball on our rackets and hitting it back and forth to our partner.
We were so lucky to have a very special visit from Louby Lou, who is an interactive story teller! Louby Lou took the children on an imaginative deep sea adventure where everyone was a little sea snail on a giant whale’s tail. All the classes enjoyed it so much, and they then did some brilliant creative storytelling through drawings in the second half of their session.
One of the highlights of this half term has been having A and S Animal Encounters into school! After reading the Gruffalo we thought it would be great if we could meet some of the animals from the story. We had a fantastic morning where we met a snake, lizard, tortoise, armadillo and a binturong (who looked like the Gruffalo!)
Year 1 enjoyed making Gruffalo cakes to sell from the hatch. We carefully followed instructions and used lots of lovely toppings to make them look just like the Gruffalo! The children loved selling these from the hatch at the end of the school day.
We had an exciting trip to the Caerphilly Mountain View Ranch, Gruffalo trail this half term! The sun was shining and we had so much fun exploring. Everyone had a go at archery, as well as exploring a wooden castle and the fairy forest. What a fantastic way to end our topic of Julia Donaldson!
We have shared the link to our Literacy Workshop this half term and can’t wait to share the resources with you. If you haven’t managed to watch it yet, there is still time 🙂 Keep an eye out for our Numeracy Workshop in the summer term!
During the last week of term we enjoyed Easter singing and crafts. We worked together to make and decorate Easter biscuits as well as Easter cards!
We hope you all have a lovely Easter and we look forward to seeing you all in the summer term, where we will begin our theme, O Dan Y Mor (Under the Sea). Pasg Hapys pawb!
