We’re delighted to see our Voice Club feature in ‘Newport Matters’ (The Newport Council Magazine) this month, after they hosted an event for members of the Pupil Participation Learning Network, a collaboration between schools and the council. Pupils from Pillgwenlly, Glasllwch, Eveswell, and Glan Usk Primary joined us for the day, and we each took it in turns to present research that we had carried out within our schools.
Children then discussed how they could use their research to improve different areas of their schools. Ideas from improving attendance, to tackling bullying, introducing a good-behaviour policy, to interviewing prospective new teachers. Councillor Deborah Davies, cabinet member for skills and work and our Chair of Governors, presented each school with a certificate in recognition of their achievements. The event was also attended by Steve Davies (Managing Director or the Education Achievement Service) and Sarah Morgan (Assistant Head of Education in Newport), who were both very impressed with the children’s ideas and presentation skills. Well done to Mrs Orford and Mrs Robinson for their efforts in running our ‘Voice Club’.
