The Goblin Greenpower IET race at Renishaw Miskin was great fun again this year. We entered three cars from each Year 6 class again; Exotic Rider (Y6ES), Lambor-greeni (Y6KL/LR) and Green is Clean! (Y6JJ). As part of our Literacy we wrote formal persuasive letters to request sponsorship to help us with our Top Gear theme. Thankfully, our letters were successful. A huge thanks to our supporters and sponsors Tesco and SIEMENS.
As part of our Top Gear theme, the children have been learning about sustainable energy and as part of their theme, formed race teams, built the cars and wired the electronics as well as designing and making the bodywork. Each Year 6 class had their own car to design and build ready to compete against each other at Renishaw, Miskin in the regional race day.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed cooking sessions in our newly equipped STEM Suite this term. Jen from ‘Cooking Together Wales’ supported the children in learning how to use knives safely to prepare delicious vegetarian enchiladas. It was wonderful to see the children tasting their culinary delights and discussing their preferences; spinach was a hit!
Newport Live have also visited Year Six classes this term to deliver an ‘anti smoking’ and ‘sugar swap’ workshop. These informative, interactive sessions encouraged the children to make informed lifestyle choices as ‘Healthy, Confident Individuals’.
It was wonderful to have the opportunity to see the theatre production ‘School of Rock’ at the Millennium Centre after Covid-19 prevented us from doing so last year. The children were mesmerised by all the talent on stage.
