Reception have loved their first half term in school! We have settled so well and we are all really enjoying our theme ‘Once Upon A Time’. We have read some brilliant stories including ‘The Three Little Pigs’, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. Not only have Reception been retelling these stories, using actions, but we have also created artwork and completed experiments for each one. We predicted then tested the best materials to use to build bridges for the goats and we followed a recipe to make ‘Bear Bread’. We also made porridge like ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, but made sure that we gobbled it all up ourselves before any intruders could help themselves like in the story!
Following discussions about different types of homes when reading ‘The Three Little Pigs’, we decided to take a look at some of the houses and homes in our own community. We went for a walk to see what we could spot and were most excited to see a caravan and even some of our own houses too! We have really enjoyed getting outdoors this term and ‘Seizing the Season!’. We have been watching the leaves change colours on the trees, jumping in the wet splashy puddles and gathering as many autumnal treasures as we can. Our very favourite outdoor adventure was visiting a local conker tree! We couldn’t believe that such beautiful shiny conkers came out of shells so sharp and spiky!
Finally just a note from the Reception teachers to say how truly proud we are of all of the children so far this year and how they have settled into school. They have adapted extremely well to the new routines and we couldn’t be prouder of each and every one of them! Keep up the fantastic work Reception!
