Today, the fourth ‘Pupil Participation’ annual event was held at St. Julian’s Primary School. Alongside St. Julian’s Primary pupils, we welcomed pupils from Glan Usk Primary, Glasllwch Primary, Pillgwenlly Primary, Eveswell Primary, Malpas Court Primary and St Woolos Primary.
Children from Year 6 Voice Club shared their research with pupils and teachers. The first group shared how they have encouraged positive behaviour with Class Dojos. The second group shared how they have completed assemblies on ‘Dreams and Aspirations’. They have explained to their fellow pupils the stages you need to go through in order to get a job when you grow up. The third group talked about being ‘Super Ambassadors’ and the importance of all children having rights and the final group spoke about ‘Mathletics’ and the importance of logging on to Mathletics at home. Most of the groups had completed research in order to complete their projects. Some of them had completed questionnaires with pupils on the yard, some had interviewed teachers and the Headteacher of St Julian’s Comprehensive School and some had completed a learning walk of the school.
We would like to say a big thank you to the Cabinet Member, Councillor Giles; Jane Houston, Participation Officer for Children’s Commissioner for Wales; Tracey Mckim, Partnership Policy and Involvement Manager and Lisanne Saladino (Children and Young Person’s Participation Officer) for attending the event.
Mrs Orford, Miss Havard and Mrs Robinson are very proud of all of the VOICE members who have worked so hard over the year on their research questions. We will be so sad to see the Year 6 members leave, but we look forward to the new Year 3 members joining us.
